Hey Becky...as always I love what you are doing. As a "professional" transport driver, driver trainer, airbrake instructor, licensed to drive anything with wheels...all around swell dancer and bon vivant it is challenging for me to identify personally with the "struggle to drive" or get back behind the wheel for whatever personal reasons one has. However I love your talent for making a metaphor clear and relatable to all we mortal writers. I have "re-trained" quite a few post accident people (not assuming that is your story here) in getting their mojo back. Your piece however inspired me to relook at the several dead ends attempts I have made at getting a project or two off the jacks and back onto four wheels and on the road, as it were. Thank you for that. I just hit another milestone, of sorts, by sending something in from one of your classes to the CBC non-fiction thingy...As always, I am a fan, and grateful for your incredibly valuable contribution to this accidental scribbler.

Hi Darren, I love that you consider yourself to be a "bon vivant" of motor vehicles. ;-) Living in Toronto, I really didn't have to drive for decades, so I think I'm just a bit rusty. Hopefully soon I'll be tooling around on the up-in-the-air, always-under-construction highways of America's 7th biggest city. Congrats on getting one of your pieces "off the jacks" and submitted to the CBC contest. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. (When I'm not driving, obviously!)

For someone with way too many job lists I love the 5 minute rule. Time to accelerate! And … I really did think that was you in the pic.

WOW, Becky. I really like this idea of acceleration. I've had the same in mind but from a slightly different perspective--more like career acceleration (begging, please). :) Though like you, writing is the one thing I carry out in slo-mo. I cannot imagine writing quickly, though when I think about it, some of my better passages have been written quickly. Also have to say, I LOVE the pic of you driving. Way to go!

Hi Nancy, believe it or not, that picture is a stock photo, but I know it really looks like me. I did a double-take when I found it! I wish you lots of "career acceleration" for the year ahead, and some speedy passages of passion-fueled writing too. :)

Hi Becky! I love receiving your writing craft tips, inspirations and contest lists. Along with my writing group, your Substack newsletter keeps me revving. It’s like I’m a passenger in BB’s car (can we make it a VW bus as your chosen lookalike photo has that vibe and I think we can also all use this vibe right now). While I take a break from my l-o-n-g-e-r writing, you’ve inspired me to speed up the odometer and submit two new shorter pieces. Thank you!

Woot! Glad to hear you submitted some short work. I feel like it's important to take breaks and palate cleanse when you're working on l-o-n-g projects. Please feel free to share, if one of these pieces finds a home! (And of course we can travel in a VW van. We'll have to plaster it with bumper stickers too!)

As an anxious driver, thank you for these "vehicular x writing life" similes and metaphors. I'm looking forward to reading more craft essays from you too, Becky!

Thanks, Britt! We should continue to encourage each other's confidence in both our vehicular + writing lives. :)
